The performing pitches
In Amsterdam, currently two main pitches are shared by street theatre performers: Leidseplein and Dam Square.
Note these pitches are not our right nor our obligation; it are just pitches that historically developed, seem
to work best, and are generally accepted. Obviously, if circumstances demand or allow, it is possible to change.
The last years, 'split-pitching' doesn't really happen anymore; it's already difficult enough as it is ;-)
Leidseplein
Street theatre plays on the spot marked 'X'. Musicians line-up and perform for the terraces on the other side of the tram
tracks, sometimes also for the other terraces. Licensed street sellers, portrait painters etc. are along the small road at
one side of the pitch.
Dam Square
The spot marked 'X' is played by street theatre shows. Around are the hot-dog / ice cream vendors (give the 'neighbour' one some
space!), the living statues spread in the center. Sometimes in the evening street theatre is played more towards the center of
the square.
Be prepared for anything... Sometimes 'shit happens'; guess where an emergency landing of a med chopper would be:
