Council of Amsterdam-Centre accepts proposal of AA/dG.
Created: October 14, 2005.
Yesterday, October 13th 2005, the partial city council of Amsterdam-Centre accepted
the proposal of Amsterdam Anders / de Groenen (Read the
proposal, Dutch).
In this proposal the Amsterdam by-law (APV) will be changed, so that street
theatre performers will be equal to street musicians and so do not need a license
anymore. The result is that non-European performers can perform again in Amsterdam.
However, the story has not ended yet. It is only the partial council of Amsterdam-Centre
that accepted the proposal. The APV concerns the whole city of Amsterdam; before anything
can take effect, the proposal has to be accepted by the council of Amsterdam-City as
well. This proposal will be dealt with during a meeting of the internal committee General
Affairs of Amsterdam-City coming November 10th.
Side effect is that the partial council of Amsterdam-Centre made a clear positive
statement about street theatre performances: Street theatre is a positive phenomena for
the city of Amsterdam; it belongs to the city, positively adds to the liveliness, and is a
definite point of attaction for citizens and visitors.
